10-year-old girl who was raped and impregnated by her stepfather to have an abortion.
A local court sitting in New Delhi, India ruled on Tuesday that doctors were free to conduct an abortion on a 10-year-old girl who was raped and impregnated by her stepfather, a day laborer in his early 20s, India today reported.
According to authorities, the victim's mother had requested the court to allow the abortion of the foetus after she was repeatedly raped by her stepfather who already has been arrested and detained at a police station in the northern town of Rohtak.
The pregnancy came to light last week after the girl's mother suspected her child was pregnant and took her to see a doctor, who confirmed that she was between 18 to 22 weeks pregnant.
Worthy of note is that, Indian law does not permit abortions after 20 weeks unless the woman's life is in danger. But after the medical board of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGI) comprising of seven doctors including three gynecologists met in court Tuesday for the case, they decided to abort the five-month-old foetus of the 10-year-old rape victim.
Confirming the court ruling on Wednesday, Dr. S. K. Dhattarwal, head of the medical team, said that, with the court decision, the medical board would perform the procedure as soon as possible.
He said that if the victim was to keep the pregnancy she 'will face psychological trauma; the pregnancy is not that advanced now." On that basis, he added, 'We have started the process during the day today."

Photo: Nigerian man arrested at Malawi airport for "attempting to externalize US$7,000"
The Malawi Police at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA), Lilongwe, on Monday afternoon May 8 arrested a 43-year old Nigerian national for attempting to externalise US$7,000 (MK5 million), which was hidden in his hand luggage.
KIA Spokesperson Sapulain Chitonde, identified the suspect as Egemonye Christian Chinedu, from Nnewi and holder of a Nigerian Passport number A05010761.
Chinedu was apprehended inside the Departures Lounge at around 13:00 hours, as he waited to board a Nigerian-bound Kenyan Airways flight.
Chitonde told The Maravi Post that the suspect was physically searched by Police Officers manning the check point, and the said amount of US$7,000, was discovered.
The KIA Spokesperson said the Nigerian failed to provide evidence from authorised Forex dealers, when he was asked to show supporting documents.
"To his defence, Chinedu said he got the money in Tete Mozambique, where he operates a clothing shop. He claimed that unspecified officers at the border (Mozambique, Malawi), told him not to worry about the cash. He said the advice made him to overlook the paperwork process, because it implied that there would be no problem to travel out with it.
"Currently, the suspect is in Police custody, and is expected to appear in court, to answer charges of illegal possession of foreign currency, and attempting to externalise forex. The police at KIA are appealing to the general public, to buy or exchange money, at designated foreign exchange facilities, to avoid similar incidents," Chitonde said.
The suspect Chinedu has been living in Tete, Mozambique, for the past three years.

Kenya's Prettiest Female Gangster Shot Dead By Police
At 3.16am on Wednesday, undercover police officers in Kayole, Nairobi, received a message from a colleague on their WhatsApp group. Four suspects who had escaped their dragnet on Manyanja Road at 11pm were in Lower Chokaa, on Kangundo Road, he said.
The officer had been called by a greengrocer, who informed him that four people, including a woman, were robbing residents.
AMBUSH
Some officers did not see the message and so he called members of his company, one by one. They then called their driver to pick them up and asked for reinforcement from uniformed colleagues on night patrol.
The description of the gang was familiar — four men and a woman, and they wore the same clothes the officers had seen a few hours earlier.
The gang was elusive and the officers had to carefully plan how to ambush it, even though they did not have sufficient information on the mode of transport the four were using.
When the police officers arrived in Chokaa, the four suspects attempted to escape.
The officers fired in the air, ordering them to surrender, but two of them who had pistols began firing back, according to the police.
The woman and a man who were shooting at the police were killed while the other two escaped on foot.
The dead woman was still clutching a Beretta pistol, which had six rounds of ammunition, police said.
Its serial number had been obliterated. There were seven spent cartridges at the scene, police added.
Kayole OCPD Joseph Gichangi said his officers took the two bodies to City Mortuary.
Mr Gichangi said that cases of women being recruited into criminal gangs are on the rise.

'I agree that I'm a fool, I stayed because of my children' - Mercy Aigbe bares all in new interview
'I agree that I'm a fool, I stayed because of my children' - Mercy Aigbe bares all in new interview
Mercy had accused the husband of physical violence that has affected her sight and caused her to bleed internally from the physical abuse allegedly melted down to her on Sunday, April 16, 2017.
When she was asked why she came out to say her husband never touched her, she was quick to refute it.
“I never for once came out to say that my husband did not beat me. The video people were referring to happened in 2013 when there were rumours of such and I did a video recording alongside my husband to debunk the claim. At that time I had to do it to protect his image and my marriage. I had to do a live video at that time”, she said.
Continue after the cut
About Beating…
“He beats me consistently.” When probed on why she stayed that long after the consistent beating, Mercy revealed that she did because she wanted a home. “I stayed because I loved him and because everytime he beats me, he begs and gets family and friends to beg me. He promised regularly to change but he never did. When my husband gets angry, he gets physical, not only to me but to anyone. He has done that with my house help who reported him to the Police years ago.
“I stayed because of my children and because a lot of people look up to me. I was a role model of some sort and I really wanted to keep it together. I just wanted a home”.
Why she wants to leave now…
“It’s not like I wanted to walk away but I just feel like we need help. I spoke to my husband’s brother about it. I told him I was going to pack out for some time while my husband seeks therapy. I just wanted to feel safe, that is why I moved my things out. This last beating was brutal. I actually thought I was going to die”.
I’m Still Coughing blood
The Nollywood actress revealed that her husband broke her orbits which will necessitate a surgery for her to see properly. “I’m still coughing and sneezing blood even after three weeks”, she reveals how severe the injury inflicted upon her is
My Husband Was Sleeping With a Girl
Aigbe also revealed that the last incident started few days before when she discovered that her husband was sleeping with a lady. A lady she claimed to be her friend whom she was close to. This was a regular attitude from her husband; a man she claims has slept with a lot of people close to her, even her PAs.
He confronted him and it led to a huge argument which was turning violent before she had to keep quiet.
He Kept Beating Me
On the day of the incident, Mercy had informed her husband that she was attending a burial of her colleague. After his hesitance, she explained that it would not be fair on the lady since she had promised to be there and even invited him to come along.
Mercy revealed that it was her refusal to go and pick her husband up while she was still at her designer’s place that brought the fury of the man on her. He was said to have driven there and started to beat her in the presence of everybody.
“Immediately, I opened the door, he kept beating me. I was begging him and asking why he was beating me. He said he would destroy my face such that no make-up would fix it and destroy my career. He was acting like someone who was possessed. I told him “Lanre, mo ma bi mo fun e” (translated as “I have a child for you).I agree that I am a fool
In the exclusive interview, the Nollywood star said she agrees that she was a fool for staying that long even with all the beating and humiliation. “I believed that a wise woman builds her home. That’s why I stayed that long”, she said.
About Cheating
“If he had shown a bit of remorse, maybe things would have been different. He went on saying that I cheated on him several times. I never cheated. That’s why I told him to come out with proof”, she said.
My Husband was in detention for over 7 months
“My husband was in detention for over seven months and I never left him or go anywhere. Why would I want to go now? He says all this is make-up. He is not showing any form of remorse and still sponsoring lies against me.

One of the seven Nigerian men arrested for robbery in Abu Dhabi pleads guilty
The seven-member gang named Dark Sky is on trial at the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance on charges of robbery and forging official documents.
Official court records stated that the gang members, aged between 30 and 35, carried out the robbery at the money exchange office in the Musaffah area in January. They used knives and iron tools to threaten the workers to hand them the cash.
"The men had interrupted the money exchange staff during their official working hours, when they were in the process of transferring funds to special vehicles meant for the purpose," said prosecutors.
The gang had been closely monitoring the money transferring activity at the exchange for a few days before the robbery and timed their arrival accordingly, according to police investigations.
Officers said the men forced the employees of the exchange to hand over the money from the vans to them before fleeing in a car hired from another emirate with forged documents.
In a previous hearing, all men denied the charges of robbery and forging official documents to rent cars used in the robbery.
And in the latest hearing on Monday, one of the men - the fourth defendant in the case - retracted his earlier denial and told the court that he was guilty of the charges.
"I am guilty of the charges. I'm solely responsible for the robbery and all these other men had no hand in it," he said in the court.
He also told the judge that he had planned and carried out the robbery single-handedly and that the rest of the defendants were not responsible for anything.
He also denied knowing the other Nigerian men and asked the court for their acquittal, claiming that they were innocent.
Prosecutors said the Abu Dhabi Police had investigated the matter immediately after the robbery and arrested the men from Sharjah, where they were hiding. The police also recovered the stolen cash.
The force had worked with the Dubai and Sharjah police departments in arresting the gang.
And during the police interrogation, the accused admitted to the robbery, stressing that they also got rid of some phones and calling cards by throwing it away at the crime scene in order to distract and mislead the investigation process.
Officers said the gang had also changed vehicles to confuse the police, discarding the vehicle they used to make their getaway from the money exchange in another emirate, and then using another vehicle to reach Sharjah.
The trial has been adjourned until May 17.

"The soldier and the judiciary staff argued over right of way and in the process the army officer came down when the judiciary driver could not yeild to his order, cocked his gun and shot at the him. The sound of the gunshot caused pandemonium and passersby scampered for cover in nearby buildings and sheds.
It happened within seconds. Before we could figure out what was going on, the soldier fled the scene with the truck. The soldier wasn't the one who drove the truck; it was driven by another person."
