Former Governor Lamido arraigned in Court

Alhaji Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa, has been arraigned at the Chief Magistrate’s Court two in Dutse amidst tight security.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abdul Jinjiri, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the ex-governor was brought to Dutse from Zone 1 in Kano early on Tuesday.

Another source said:“As I speak to you, we are already in Dutse for formal arraignments of the former Governor..“

Reports say that the court premises had been besieged by a huge crowd, including journalists.

The police and other security agencies have been placed on alert to prevent likely protest from Lamido’s supporters.

He was arrested early on Sunday, April 30 for allegedly trying to disrupt local government elections in Kano through his supporters.

He was arrested at his Sharada-Kano home on Sunday, and taken to Zone One Command of the Nigeria Police in Kano.

Lamido was alleged to have made inciting statement, calling on his supporters to disrupt the local government elections slated for July 1.

According to the police, the ex-governor’s alleged offence is contrary to Section 114 of the penal code.
